Project Description

After years of struggle against the elements of rain and frost, the OHL management decided to convert their old, heavy loam based, natural grass pitch into a state of the art sand based hybrid turf pitch.

Whilst Euro Sports Turf GmbH was awarded the main reconstruction contract, Sports Pitch Systems acted as subcontractor for the supply and installation of a new undersoil heating system. In addition, SPS provided their network and purchasing power to assist the main contractor in sourcing gravel for the gravel raft.

After the pitch completion, SPS installed a Soil Scout pitch monitoring system to assist the groundstaff in their daily decision making process regarding soil salinity, soil moisture and soil temperature. A tailor made interface ensures smooth interaction between the soil temperature sensors and the heating system controller.

Scope of works

1. Pre-fabrication of 210m of HDPE 160mm divider manifolds through in-house poly-fusion technology;

2. Installation of 200m of main feed and return pipes;

3. Installation of 32.000m of lateral HDPE 25mm heating pipes, following the contours of the laser graded gravel raft and fixed at 250mm intervals by U-rails;

4. All connections welded through butt-fuse and electro-fuse technology;

5. Installation of 350m of cable ducts for temperature sensor control cables;

6. Provision of 1400 tons owashed and crushed gravel aggregate for gravel raft;
