The "Collectorveld" or "Collector Field" is a new development whereby synthetic turf surfaces are used for solar heat collection. After succesfully completing laboratory tests, the first pilot project was installed at AMVJ Sport Centre in Amstelveen with the aim to validate the laboratory results.
Under the influence of the sun's radiation, synthetic turf surfaces can heat up to 70 degrees Celsius. A substantial part of that energy can be regained through an intensive matrix of water filled tubes that are fitted directly under the synthetic turf surface. In combination with a subtile that is produced from special heat conductive compounds, the system generates upto 170 Watt per m².A full size football field can generate upto 2.000.000 kWh of energy and save upto 3.500 tons of carbondioxide emission!
In addition, by extracting the heat from the surface, the players automatically have a more comfortable experience whilst playing on a cooler surface.
