The City of Eindhoven participates in a countrywide campaign to create housing developments that are disconnected from the national gas grid. Sustainable energy solutions like underground Heat/Cold Storage have already been installed in parts of the city.
Likewise, on and around Sports Centre ‘Strijp’, new housing development is ongoing whereby each house is connected to the city’s Heat/Cold Storage system. As part of the regular renovation cycle, 4no korfball fields were nominated to be resurfaced in 2023. It was then decided to integrate the resurfacing works with the installation of an Energy Collecting System whereby the heat that is collected from the synthetic turf fields is used to warm the City’s geothermal well.
In essence the energy generated through the 4no korfball fields can provide enough energy to heat 150 houses. This is the first project of its kind at this scale whereby the City of Eindhoven proves once again its innovative agenda.
Specialist sports field contractor Top Grass was awarded the contract for the complete installation of the new subbase, collector field and synthetic turf surface. Sports Pitch Systems provided the engineering and installation of the complete pipe matrix for the Energy Collecting System.
